The evolution of the Internet has brought about major changes in the publishing of legal materials. With the advent of Kindle and the iPad, are librarians and their clients progressively turning their attention away from print media?

The 2008 Frankfurt Book Fair – survey, How will digitisation shape the future of publishing?, received responses from more than 1,000 industry professionals from over 30 countries including:

  •   e-content will overtake traditional books in sales by 2018;
  • retail booksellers, together with the role of agents and editors, will disappear; and
  • a small percentage (12%) of responses stated that "e-readers are a passing craze and will be gone in 60 years' time".

The panel will be asked to reflect on the above and discuss what they see as key challenges facing the legal publishing industry – are there perils and what, if any, is the potential to their clientele?
